Default Speedo is "floating" and shifting bad

A while back I had the trans replaced and it ran great for a few thousand miles. I have an Edge programmer on it and it runs and shifted better for quite some time. One day while merging onto the interstate the speedo started jumping up and down, but I was already going fast, so didn't notice any issue. When I pulled into town I noticed that it couldn't seem to decide whether it wanted 2nd or 3rd gear when driving between 30-40mph. it's been this way for several years, hasn't gotten any better or worse, but I bought a new truck and my dad started driving it- he drives it 3 miles a day so he never bothered to look into it. about 2 years ago I crawled under and was going to replace what napa suggested was the speed sensor, but the parts they were giving me(yes multiple tries) weren't applicable. I would like to fix this, as it still is such a great truck!

it's 2 wheel drive, and the cruise never worked since I bought it at 170,000 - I put over 30,000 on it before this started.

Any suggestions? thanks!!!/

oh man, I just saw I placed this in the distress section - I'm sorry all, I'll try to delete this and post it in the appropriate area.
