i have a 2004 ford f250 with 164k on it and it has started puking coolant under the hood the heater doesnt work because it is not circulating water it is just puking it up if you drive it 60 or under youcan drive it anywhere if you get it over 60 it will get hot and then coll down and then get hot and cooldown ect.. could some one help me out and let me know what this could be and how much does it usally cost to repair btw it is a 6.0 powerstorke

 

welcome to diesel bombers and puking coolant under hood need to be a little more specific on where its coming from all the details you can give us would be very helpful

 

you need to do a complete flush of the system, then put in a new thermostat and a new rad cap...................dont forget to use only distilled water with yer new glycol..........50/50 and I thin the Fords use an additive for the cavitation issues too

 

it is coming out of the resovoir on the drivers side where you add the antifreeze i have flushed it with a water hose and it is flowing cause i thought the heater core might have been clogged but it was not alos the top rad hose will get so much pressure on it it feels as if it is about to pop

 

I would say the thermostat isn't opening like it should be to allow coolant flow which could cause your pressure back up in the system. I would be on the look out for the water pump too because if thats not spinning its not going to flow at the rate it is supposed to and cause overheating. Don't count out the radiator though either! I know this may not apply but I had a ford ranger that had the problem with the antifreeze overflowing like whats happening to you and after I fixed everything it turned out that the radiator was bad. It could be clogged and causing the pressure build up that has lead to your "spewing". Like said before, give the radiator a flush. There will be pressure if you use the garden hose but there is supposed to be or the truck wouldn't cycle the coolant like its supposed to. Also check your coolant hoses to see if any of them collapse and to make sure they have the metal coils in them to keep them open. Sorry for the long post, hope something helps. Keep us posted!

 

Thermostat is one option, next is EGR cooler could be blown, or in an extreme case one or more headgaskets. All common problems for these trucks. Do you have access to a scanner or something that can read engine parameters?

 

Could also be that the coolant is not up to snuff anymore and is actually boiling inside the motor. Once it starts to boil it is hard to stop and you will overheat.

I would say check the boiling point of the coolant too.
