I agree check for codes, had a 24 valve at work cause some headaches, would do same thing and had to also replace the cracnkshaft posistion sensor as it was sending and intermitten siganal at cranking speed but would run after a shot of diesel dope and ran good after it started. it had a active code of crank posistion sensor . good luck
