FYI most over the counter parts store scanners won't read the OBDII system that ford used on these trucks. i have an Auto X-Ray Code Scout that wouldn't read codes on my 99 f-250. i ended up using my friends Snap-On MODIS.

if you can get your hands on one of those or any other "shop" scanner like MAC or Matco etc. you can BUZZ test the injectors and it will know if they are stuck open or closed. also it will let you see the HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) pressure.

here is a how-to on injector and glow plug replacement. https://www.dieselbombers.com/powers...placement.html

follow the first few steps to check the harness and valve cover gaskets. you can get the valvecover gaskets for ~60 bux through Orileys Auto Parts and the harnesses you can get through Advance auto parts for ~30-35 IIRC.

IMHO if it was the CPS it would either crank or it wouldn't. the CPS was recalled and is a free replacement if you can get it to a ford dealership. call them with the VIN to find out if you qualify for the recall. here is the info on that https://www.dieselbombers.com/ford-p...call-7-3l.html

i hope this helps. PM me if you have some specific questions or post them up here. i got lucky and found the injectors for $100 a piece re-maned through Pensacola Diesel in Pensacola FL. they also sell the whole kit, injectors, glow plugs, valve cover gaskets, and injector harnesses for $989

hope this helps

i wander if you call the dealer and tell them the CPS failed on your van and you couldn't get it up there if they would cover the tow?

I doubt it. Ford is pretty stingy with that sort of stuff. Honestly, it would be cheaper to just buy one and install it than pay for the tow on an F450 sized truck.
