What kind of fluid does this puppy need? And of course does it go into a fill screw like a 67 Mustang fastback? Really appreciate any help. Called a couple of places and they were idiots. No clue what I was talking about. Sigh.

Seal on bottom of box to shaft looks to be leaking.

Steering seems quite loose now. 55,000 miles lifted at 16,000.

im guessing thats its a dmax, u can use ATF in there it stops leaks sometimes. Most power steering fluids can work in there, lucas, penziol, valvoline

My question is where it it leaking from, and are your pitman and idler arm worn down?

That can create a looseness feeling in the steering

 

Toney, how bad is the leak. If its leaking from the top of the gear box where the shaft attaches to it u might have to replace it, or rebuild it.

Just add fluid to your reservoir. If you could get under the truck and grab the centerlink and try to shake it around, same thing with the pitman and idler.

 

If you have somebody just move the steering wheel back and forth while you check the front end you can narrow down where the problem is. Just start watchin at the pitman arm and shaft coming out of the gear and work your way through the system. Just watch for slop. In my case i just installed a new PSC steering gear because the shaft coming out of the gear had an excess amount of slop in it.

If you don't find anything like that jack the front end up, and without pulling the truck off the stands move the wheels up and down and side to side to see if there is any slop in there.

 

i replaced my whole front steering system Centerlink, pitman idler, tie rods, gear box, hoses, cause they were worn out or old from mudding too much.
