Shops are very expensive, I don't trust any of them. Been there done that. Bad past experiences. I will never take my truck to the dealer ship. I have a pretty good mechanical background. Just newer to the diesel world. I know the lingo and what you're talking about also. I know taking it to a shop would be the logical, quickest way to get it fixed. But I also like to learn and work on my vehicles when they experience problems. I do have a pretty fancy snap on scanner. I've read the codes over and over.
