Default 1995 chevy diesel 6.5 ecm code 19

Hey guys, I've been having problems with my truck. It's been turning off on me, acting real funny, will run fine in idle, but will cut out while driving, as if someone just cut the ignition off. Since problems started I've replaced fuel filter, lift pump, lift pump solenoid, pmd, oil pressure sensor, & crankshaft position sensor. I finally got a diagnostic computer(cheap one), and I keep getting code 19 even though I've already changed the CPS. FYI, when I changed the CPS the first time, the truck cranked right up and was able to drive it around town for about an hour. Came home, turned it off for 15 min. Started it back up, drove about a 1/8 mile when it cut right off as if someone turned back the key, I was able to crank it back up and drive it in idle back to my house. Still get code 19. Please help, it's my only work truck and I go to different jobs statewide (Florida). Thank You.

Sounds like the IDM (injector driver module) it's located on the side if the injection pump. It's a good idea to relocate the IDM away from heat source. Google it and check it out. This is a common prob on these engines.

Thank you for your response. Are you referring to the PDM? The PDM is brand new and has been relocated under the front bumper.

Ya sorry PDM. I always get that wrong. I found out GM covered that for 100,000 miles regardless of what year vehicle was. Other than the PDM the only other thing that would shut the engine down is the shut off solenoid. I've seen oil pressure switches go bad and then the lift pump stops working but in my experience the pump still pulls the fuel and the only complaint was low power or hard starting.
And just because the PDM was replaced doesn't mean it's not the culprit. Can't really test it. All you can do is rule out the other things. Did you pull the resistor from your old PDM and put into new one? I've seen people relocate them but not use a resistor. Usually just sets a code, not shut it off. I'm kinda peeing in the wind here but everything in my thought process points to the PDM.

PMD. I was wrong again. Pump mounted driver. I'll get it right eventually. I've been out of the 6.5 for a while now so I'm rusty.

Also, I was just thinking about this, check your battery terminals and engine grounds. Had a weird one on my buddy's 97 dually that ended up being bad connection at battery. Always a good idea to clean grounds too.
On a side note, I remember driving on highway in my 92 C3500, mechanical DB2 pump, and it shut off but slowly slowed then shut off. Ended up being a bad fuel cap and imploded the tank. Bent my sending unit all to hell, but was able to compress tank with air and blow it back out. Hard to see with cover on it but when you remove cap you will hear it suck air in.
Just my .02. Hope it helps and good luck.

I've already tried two PMDs. where is the resistor located? Do I use the old one or should it be replaced? Thanks again.

How do I get more info on GM covering the PMD?

Resistor is in your original PMD. People replace them with different resistors for different applications and if I recall correctly the new PMDs don't come with one. They will run but causes problems. I'd be lying if I told you exactly which one you need so you may have to search it or call the stealership. Try googling PMD resistor and see what you come up with. Like I said I'm rusty on these but I know just enuff to be dangerous. I'm pretty sure no resistor sets a code. Which code, I don't recall. But perhaps after time without resistor, it could cause this prob. You have a 95 which is still OBDI. I was working on a 97 with an OBDII. Not sure if that would be different. Just trying to help.

Any dealer will cover it under warranty as long as its the original and your under 100k mile mark. That's what happened to that 97 and they changed the entire pump under warranty. 2 years later he was at 103,000 miles and we relocated PMD after it went bad. So far no prob except that code for the resistor. I'm pretty sure he had a shop do the resistor. I left his PMD on the pump when I did the relocation kit. Didn't remove the intake but was a PITA trying to get connector off and reconnected to new long harness included with the kit.

Not really much you can do to remedy this. The connector is pretty hard to get off the module when you don't remove the intake. And then trying to route out the OEM harness and get it out far enuff to plug in the extension harness is fun also. I did get it and really didn't take that long but involved a lot of 4 letter words.
