New Diesel Owner in SE VA - DirtyMax Baby!
Hey guys,
Just purchased my first ever diesel, and liked all of the info I have found so far on this forum! I spent the past six years on the Supramania forums, so I got used to having a large resource of information and a good community to hang out with, and I'm hoping to find that here as well.
I come from the Toyota Supra world of crazy turbocharged inline 6's, and do all of my own work. My current supra (my third) has a built motor, larger turbocharger, and a few other fun additions. She is currently down for maintenance because she cannibalized first gear, prompting me to purchase a more reliable daily - my truck!
My best friend's family has a performance diesel shop in New Mexico, and he finally convinced me to test drive a turbo diesel. I wasn't sure at first and did tons of research, but soon found that a turbo diesel for a daily can be just the experience I want out of my vehicles.
I've always loved the mean look of the Silverado, and the first diesel shop I went to had several that were slightly lifted and stock under the hood. My first ever diesel drive was a 2003 Silverado CC/SB, and it was a blast! I was hooked. More research said the LBZ was the best for price/performance and lower emissions junk on the engine, so I set to finding one. Just for ***** and giggles, I drove a lifted 5.3L 2011 Silverado. What a pig, you'll never get me in a non-turbo truck ever again.
Well, a few days later I found what I was looking for. 200 miles away, and the moment I saw the picture on Autotrader, I knew she was the one! A dark blue, black trim, 2006 Silverado CC/SB 4x4 LT model, with 161K miles on the clock, all stock, a nice clean carfax, and right in my price range (well under $21K).
I just picked her up and made the down payment this past Wednesday and I have been happier than a pig in **** ever since! A few little cosmetic things here and there, two blown speakers, but it's a used truck. What did I expect? It's been amazing regardless, and under the hood looks almost brand new! I'll post some pictures to share.
I cannot wait to add a 4in exhaust, intake, update the sound system, perform all the maintenance just so I know what is zeroed and good to go. Then I can just enjoy her until I have enough parts gathered to really begin the upgrades. If only the weather would warm up so I can wash, wax, vacuum, and wipe her down to my liking!
