It's definately a 9,25" Chrysler...

Dana 60 looks like this:

I'm sure these will take boost.... but i'd rather keep it in original shape... this thing is a collectible

get yourself a 2nd gen Dodge Ram and do all the wild stuff there...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

This truck is not a D150:

The Half-Tons did not come with 8lug axles... if it's a D150 he's got those 3.54 axles off a D250 or D350...

Would love to see the dyno # for this one though:

That turbo engine most likely came from a Fuso truck.

I did email Rod and spoke this weekend with one of his sons, I believe.
Nice people and very helpful. I learned quite a bit about it from the conversation.

I've read numbers from 164 to 200+hp and torque numbers have escaped me.

The thought of boosting this one is just flighting fancy because I'd love for it to have 300 ft/lbs of torque, I'm really just going to try getting it all working like it did when it was new.

I haven't determined for sure if the wheels are stock and simply painted black. If they are, that's one less thing I have to fool with aside from some stockish tall skinnies to replace the 31.5's on it now.

My guess is some hard tall skinnies will improve fuel consumption and 0-60 performance.

It moves out better than a W123 Benz, na for sure and maybe 0-40 better than a turbo W123, but seems happy cruising about 65 whereas I've had a W123 wagon that didn't mind 100+ but took a while to get there. I'll know more soon when I've filtered the fuel supply better.

The tank is off and cleaned right now and there is consideration to modifying the plastic tank (that appears no different than a gas burning truck's tank) with a man hole cover and drain right under the pick up sock. A diesel tank without a drain means the Dodge brothers overlooked that and if done well, I don't think it would hurt the value of the truck, especially since those plastic tanks are plentiful.

This one still had the original sock on the pickup despite a 1981 Dodge dealership hand written repair order giving instructions to leave the fuel sock off. I have all the service and parts receipts for it from day one.

I wish I had a roof to put over it and a rotisserie.

In the mean time, I wouldn't mind finding a pick up sock for the 5/16" pick up tube that is longer and larger in OD than the tiny stocker, maybe flat bottomed so capacity isn't lost and the pick up tube doesn't have to be bent.

Does any such beast exist?

Anyhow, thank you all for the feedback and help.

If any of you stumble across one of these that is dead and stinking, I wouldn't mind snagging some of it's diesel only special parts as well as a unharmed front grill, maybe some mirrors, dash cover in green, stock radio, heater control head and a tail gate since this one's is awol.

I know there have to be more of these out there quietly rusting and dying, if not already dead.

I spoke to a guy today that crushed a 79 several years ago and currently has it's all yellow engine on ebay. First 79 I heard of although I have read it was offered in 79 but they sold very very few and so few they discontinued it.

Thanks all of you and do any of you know of anything else that uses the manual idle speed adjuster that looks like this one's?

I need to snap another of the assembly complete but I'd like to find another one in serviceable condition. In the mean time, I'm going to attempt re-cabling this broken one.

This is Rod's son Brandon and the red truck with white wheels is a d150 but my dad converted it to 8 lug with d200 axles. The turbo 6DR5 is actually in my 1974 D100 that I drive on a daily basis. It doesn't have a whole lot of power but it's very reliable and gets great mileage. The engine came new from Diesel America in El Paso, TX in the mid 1980's. The red truck with the white wheels is a factory diesel which my brother also drives almost every day. We also have 2 more running 6DR5's that aren't in any vehicles right now, one is turbocharged and one is n/a. Here's some pics of my truck:

Hello Brandon and thanks for showing up!

Nice ride for sure.

I've been taking detail pix and wonder if you have any good shots, dimensions would be nice, of the tailgate diesel badge. I've yet to find a picture of one even in the factory sales literature and sales brochures.

I discovered that the "diesel only" textured decal is still present on my "Prospector" bed which leaves me to believe it's original to the truck as was indicated to me. I"ll get it photographed soon. Weird is that it has Adventurer badges for the front fenders and interior still stashed in the glove box and it does have the Adventurer interior trim. I just slathered them with stripper and hopefully I'll be able to reclaim enough of it to be useful.

Look on your 78's and see how many of them have the exterior door handle areas setting in a stamped rectangular recess of the outer door skin. Some of the Dodge astute tell me this is very uncommon and it is seldom ever seen. I'll upload pix soon and I'm glad I don't need any outer sheet metal skins for this one. You can see the recess detail in this pic.

Thanks for the three pix one of you sent and would really like to see detail pix of the exhaust manifold if you guys have one off. The "heat boost" valve details, inside and out, would be nice to see. The turbo exhaust pic was neat to look at but it didn't give me any better understanding of what's up with the NA factory version's unit.

I'm also curious if you guys have one that has all the stock cabling and hand controls, in the injection pump and electric shut off areas, just as it left the factory. Any pix of those details, specifically how the hand throttle is connected, would be most helpful although it would be nice to see pix of one as new with correct and original fuel hoses and all that jazz just to know.

Let Rod know that I'd like to obtain a hand throttle, center rod at least, that has a good and complete cable attached and with the original end would be teats. So far I've not had any luck ID'ing it and not had the time to join up on an antique semi-truck site.

Mine was chucked in the lathe yesterday and I rolled the bezeling back to attempt taking it apart so a new cable inner and outer could be installed, no luck getting the cable's anchor, which allows the cable inner to swivel, out of the center shaft.

The shaft on the left, hopefully with good cable and it's end still in place, is the one I need and seek. I don't require button and **** or hardware, although undamaged black plastic bits would be nice. Mine are cracked, but, functional.

Thanks again all of you. I do know where a one owner 87 Chevy S10 5 speed truck sits with Isuzu diesel and it's a 9 with less than 90,000 miles, if any of you are interested in it. It may even be an extended cab, I'll get pix of it soon and refresh my memory.
