Understand. But doesn't matter if you pull or start adding horsepower and performance parts for a DD things will break and wear out overtime.

I meant more reliable than...lets say...a ford, at the same power level.

Ive seen a 1989-1993 with almost 1,000 hp like 972 hp with nitrous for around $20,000 in diesel power magazine. I was wondering could i get around 700-800 without nitrous? I want it to be a long term project ,and itll be my pride and joy, so itll be done the right way the first time. Ik itll cost but is it possible without nitrous? Ie compound turbo, intercooler, arp head studs etc.

I've heard once you get around 400-500 horsepower it gets expensive to modify the 12v

I was thinking about getting the truck running good stock. Then get a 47RH transmission to build up and save up parts for my compund turbo and pistons and cams and such to rebuild it and put an intercooler (ive heard second gen intercoolers work) in it. Of course thatll mean rebuilding the rear end and such. But when i get all my parts together i could do it at one time. Or get another short block that way i have less down time. But saving like that lets me spread the spending out a little and i could buy the best that way.

It helps keep things cool, lowers egt and up's hp correct? Plus i heard it was the best upgrade u could do to a non intercooled turbocharged diesel. And btw i wouldnt of said intercool the ford if id known it wasnt turboed, i thought all diesel engines were

Get a P-Pumped 12valve..... Period....

If you stud and ring your 12valve, it will hold incredible amounts of boost...

With the correct charger, i'm thinking i will make easy 600hp on the truck in my sig!

I've yet to buy studs though.... and i'm still deciding on the rings...

since your in highschool and would imagine you make the same i do (minimum wage) i would just focus on getting a truck to last you through college. i wouldnt start putting thousands into a truck in the $4k range. i would get a stock truck, put a decent intake and exhaust, and just maintain it very well. your talking some money to get to the 600-800 hp range. i know it doesnt seem like a lot but it takes some cash to get to that point. i had those same dreams at one point but ill just stick with stock for now

P.S. -- welcome to diesel bombers!
