True, but think of how much HP and TQ you could have from a motor a third as big... It'd still be more than most people, even heavy towers, really need, and it'd give you great mileage.

Strip off all the EPA crap, and you have a vehicle that gets 3-4MPG better. At what point does the value of diminishing returns start to negate the positive effects of exhaust cleaning equipment?

yea it would be pretty bad to the bone man.. if those are true numbers the dmax sounds like it will have the most power fords motor is only going to have 390hp and 420lb ft of torque.

my bad typo, but the duramax might not even happen if they dont get bailed out, we might all be buying fords. LOL

Yeah I'm afraid for GM. They are by far in the worst situation. They did not heed the call to reform their organisation, and now they have been paying $67million/day for it.
Getting back to the big 3 of diesels, I used to be a massive Powerstroke fan. When the 7.3L came out, I was sold for life...The Cummins was nice, but Dodges just had too many tranny problems. And GM at the time, was not even in the picture. My how things have changed...

What is also cool is the fact that the new 4.5L duramax has the same power figures that the '01-'04 Duramax's had; 300hp and 520ft-lbs. Not too shabby for a 2.1L smaller displacement!!! Except with those smaller cylinders, it won't have nearly the same power potential, or a badass exhaust tune. BUT...economy.

yea i think it kind of funny there putting a diesel in a 1500 there going to be a sport truck more then anything.

It does it without a computer, granted its not often streetable power, but either are most 1000HP+ D-Max's or CR Dodges running numerous computer programs and dozens of sensors.

In either case, the world of great diesel engines is here to stay, at least for the next few decades, lets celebrate .[/


Isuzu ? where did you get that, isuzu had nothing to do with the LMM. Gm owns 100% of Dmax . Isuzu and GM worked together to come up with the initial deign of the first dmax, it was a joint effort.Isuzu is not involved ,or has no ownership in DMAX.

Not to bash on you or what you think, but the duramax block, heads, cranks, ect ect are made over seas by Isusu Asia. They are shipped in rough cast on big pallets to the U.S. and then finish machined and assembled here in America. Now to me that makes it a joint effort between Isuzu and GM, thats not to say it isnt still a great engine just that its not soley made by GM.
