Default how hard could it be??

My dad has a line on an early '00s model 2500hd 2wd that has a blown engine. Not sure about the trans. His idea is to get the truck, pull the dmax, and put his 12v cummins in it and maybe even try to use the allison if its still good. I've never done much more than change the oil in a dmax, so i was curious as to how much of a pain itll be to make this swap and if the allison is even compatible with the 12v...seems like it would be an awesome machine if it could happen

That would be a sweet truck. It's definitely possible, there's at least one or two guys on this site that have done GM Cummins conversions, and I think there's a couple companies that make adapters for the Allison to run on other engines with standalone TCM's...Could be wrong though.

Any ideas on the cost of these conversion kits?

The chevy body and interior with the bulletproof 12v is very enticing. Im even beginning to think about taking this one myself, but I'll use the NV4500 that I have and know works

How much better is the ride in the chevy? I would imagine there would be some big improvements over the solid axle with the IFS system..

The chevy ride might be a little nicer, high speed turns like (like off-ramps)with bumps quite a bit better but overall not enough difference to make ride the deciding factor IMYHO.

From what I understand, the engine came all to pieces when the owner tried to use starting fluid It supposedly got close to 6k rpm...use your imagination haha

No idea. I would assume that the bolt on parts would be ok. I know it slung a rod but I'm not sure of the damage other than that.
