Default PLEASE HELP 1997 K1500 6.5 Turbo Diesel PLEASE HELP

I am VERY close to purchasing this truck. It has 150,000 miles and is very clean. I dont know much at all about this motor and would like ANY and ALL comments and concerns. I am VERY familar with the Cummins motors as I own two Cummins. I have heard alot about PMD and heard there is one good and one bad tranny... they say that this truck has the good one. Please advise and thank you very much for your time and input.

Yup the pmd is an issue alright. I had a '96 that had the original pmd in it and it was never a problem but the '95 I have now already had the remote mounted pmd and I still had to put a new one in. Now I've had to replace the whole motor and now have a '97 6.5 that also had the remote mounted pmd.
The reason I had to replace the motor was due to a severe overheat and two cracked heads and multiple severely scored cylinders. A mechanic I spoke to during this process said, "of course it's got a cracked head, they're all cracked, even from the factory". Whether or not that is true, I can't say but I can say that in the future, I'll steer clear of the 6.5td.
That being said... you wanna buy a truck?

The cracks in the heads are a surface crack due to the head surface being to far from the water jacket and are seldom to never a issue that even needs to be addressed. Pmds are the biggest problem with the 94 and later 6.5's. If you are just wanting a driver and don't want to build big power which is about all a 1500 is good far then it will do fine. I have had a few 6.5's and never had any major issues with them.
