Default RPM Gage fluctuating should I be concerned?

The RPM Gage is fluctuating bouncing around just started on my 96 Chevy K3500 6.5 diesel. Also the throttle control light came on and went out about threw weeks ago. I use this truck to haul my Jayco toy hauler and I am planning a trip next weekend. Hoping that I do not have to pull out the AAA card.... Any suggestions?
I am new to the site and have visited in the past and the advise is very good...

Thanks,
Cindy
