top hose gets not hard at all really. but it performs the same, and no smell. Just fixed block heater, possible cause of bad starts as its in excess of -15 here on regular basis. I had previous coolant leak, gonna pick up pellets from gm to fix the leak for sure. and check from there. only weird part is still the surge tank.
