Default 1998 6.5

i was driving in the field the other day loading hay just idling. when turning got down in the ditch so i was going to back out and i put it in reverse and it died like i turned the key off. i thought it may be the pmd so i unplugged the one on the pickup and plugged in another one. still no start. pulled the shutoff solenoid and put in a different one still no start. do i need to bolt the new pmd onto the pump for it to work? this truck is driving me crazy. i changed the fuel filter. has power to the shutoff solenoid. out of all the wires to the pmd only one is hot. boost pump is working. idk what it is. inj. pump is less than a year old.

Does the new pmd have the resistor in it?

Unplug the pmd and look in the connection. If you see a white piece of plastic at the bottom of it it has the resistor in it. If it does not go to the injection shop and buy a #9 resistor for it or if you can get to it take a paper clip straighten and bend a slight hook on it and gently pull it out and put it in the new pmd . You need to mount it to something my suggestion would be to buy a cable extension and bolt it to the bumper. It will work if you just lay it there.

I don't really know how many wires are supposed to be hot never had to check that. Is the mechanical pump off of a 6.5 or a 6.2? Is the truck auto or manual. If the pump is off of a 6.5 and the truck is manual you will need a cable and probably a mechanical waste gate.

So a new common rail truck would not be good for you? I know this thing seams complex but its not. This truck should not be any more problematic than your 12 valve. The biggest problem is finding some one that knows much about the 6.5 when something breaks. Or maybe this truck hates you and you ought to just sell it to me every truck I seam to own comes out of Texas anyway.

dont tempt me. its a good truck just has its problems. i put the different pmd in with the resistor this time and started cranking it and it broke a starter bolt idk if the pmd was the problem but maybe i'll know tomorrow.

Make sure the front bracket is on the starter or it will break starter bolts or worse a block. Was there a resistor in the pmd?
