A #5 is off of a light duty 3/4 ton or 1/2 ton. The #9 is 1ton. The #9 is supposed to supply more fuel but to be honest with you just run the #5 if thats what you have. You will not notice a difference in the two. If you want to add more power just go to heath and buy a ecm.

Sounds like the turbos isn't working. When you get it started while the truck is idling see if you can move the waste gate. If you can you ether have a vacuum pump bad, a bad line, bad waste gate solenoid, or a bad waste gate actuator. If its not working and you don't mind spending a little money I would put a mechanical one on it. Most likely it is the pmd. Thats the single most problematic thing on the truck. There is other things it could be. A ecm could have went or injection pump could have let go. With it dieing all of the sudden I would say its the pmd. Injection pumps can just go out they are a mechanical thing but the newer 6.5 pumps are not a problem like the first ones where.

the turbo isnt the problem its the vaccum system controlling the boost. yes you can swap turbos but you need to swap the wastegate to fit the 98. easy out maybe for the starter bolt.

ya on the starter bolt. i am not too thrilled about trying to get it out but it wont work with only one. the manual wastegate wont work for a 98? also running you can move the wastegate up and down

You can put the turbo of a 93 on a 98 but it is not as good of a turbo. Not thats its bad but the 98 flows a little better and 93 only makes about 3 psi. You can turn that up by shortening the rod between the waste gate an the spring but you will need a boost gauge for that. You will need to remove the vacuum system on the truck. I don't know if you can just change the waste gates because of how they bolt on from 93 to 98. If you can move the waste gate check to see if you have vacuum to the turbo solenoid. Its on the driver side of the engine and is a small black box with vacuum lines going to it. If you are getting vacuum to it then the pump is working then check the lines going to the turbo and if they are all good. Check to see if you have vacuum at the turbo and if you don't just replace the turbo solenoid and it should work fine.

It depends on what kind of tools you have access to. The easiest way I have found to get them out is to take a transfer punch the size of the counter boar in the block and mark the end of the bolt. Then take a center punch and enlarge the size of the mark you made. Next take a drill bit for a small easy out and drill the bolt as strait as you can. Then back it out with the easy out. The bolt wont be that tight so if you don't have that stuff you might be able to get something like a screw driver and put pressure against the end of the bolt. Just make sure not to bend any exposed threads over or you will have a big problem. I would put two new bolts in it and make sure the front bracket is on the starter.

93 style wastegate is horizontal and 98 is vertical so they wont interchange. but if you fab someyhing up it would probably work.
