GM should have stopped at the 6.2 I fear traffic when driving mine.... hope nobody is behind me

if the 6.2 and 6.5 are such bad motors y does the military use them... so far all i have done on the 6.2 is change an injection pump, troubleshoot glowplugs, replaced a head,replaced a waterpump, and pulled the motor, these r all the common things that go wrong and i only did it for training purposes

You ain't been in motor T that long have you. I done so many engine replacements I can't even remember the total number. Headgasket and cylinder head replacement/repairs to many to count. Injection pump issues dealt with them too. I even use to rebuild these engines when I was in the Marines.

Why does the Military use these out dated engines. Money that is why, being in the military if you have not figured out the DOD goes to the lowest bidder for stuff then you need to look at what your working on.

Also it does not stop with the 6.2L,6.5L I also replaced the Cummins 292 inline 6 diesel that is in the 5ton trucks. As well as the 92V detriot Diesel that is in the LVS ( Logistic Vehicle System) that the Marine Corps has.

I also was fuel/electric certified when I was in as well. I use to work on the injectors, alternators, starters, fuel injection pumps, and other components as well.

im buying a 6.2 powered suburban this weekend, 3/4 ton automatic 2wd, i am going to contract it to a friend of mines dad to haul trailers. nothing heavy, just decent work. id rather have one of the mechanical injected trucks, no matter what the brand, before i took a electronic truck. why, they are cheap, easy to work on, and fun to have. i am gonna call around and see if i can find a set of bigger injectors for it, along with my 7.3.....

Good luck finding bigger injectors for the 6.2L you may find them but they are not going to be cheap. One thing you can do is get the injectors for the 6.5L and install them on your 6.2L they are a little bigger but not by much. Another thing you can do is get the turbo kits from banks for the 6.2L this will also add more power. You can also check around for some drmo auctions and see if you can find a tubro set up that came off a humvee from the military. The Army and Air Force used turbos on the Hummvees but the Marines did not.

I dont know why these motors get bashed so bad.My beater(93 2500 4wd auto) has 224,000 miles and purrs like a kitten.I did break down and put 8 injectors in @ 220,000.Still orig IP.Getting around 18-19 in town,starts easy and runs smooth 40 psi @ 1200 warm.Did get new glow plugs @177,000 or so.

my 6.2 suburban drove to northern north carolina and hauled my dodge back to florida without a single problem, running 65-70 mph.....just hard to stop when she blew a rear wheel cylinder.....i paid 500$ cash for the thing a little over a month ago and its already paid for itself twice over and when the motor goes its getting a 6V53 turbocharged Detroit with a 5 speed allison i got from a guy for free....

I had a 6.5 never a pump had pump problems till the end of it's life towed everyday 5000#'s had 300,000 miles when it gave up 14mpg towing 20-25 empty w/routine maintenance.it was a 1994 extra cab long bed auto.wish I kept that truck the old 12v will never get that kind of milage w/4.10 gears.
