Default 6.5 no start...again

howdy, threw a post up here (https://www.dieselbombers.com/chevy-...t-no-fire.html) and back to square 1. burned through 4 or 5 PMD's since the last post, getting stuck in remote parts of the province. seems like below -15C the truck will spin but no fire until i throw a new pmd in and get some icy-hot packs on the ecm. lift pump pass, fuel to t valve, seems like shes trying to turn, got smoke but if she does catch its a 5-10 second stumble then ***** out. weve got some pretty nasty weather going on and hoping i can get the rig rocket up and stable before the next rotation. any info would be appreciated if anybodys had any symptoms like this.

You need to check the fuel flow at the bleed valve. Straight wire the lift pump, run a switch inside the truck so you can turn it on for diagnostic purposes. It also helps to bleed it when you run out of fuel

It should fill up a red solo cup under 30 seconds. If it is a weak stream then something is clogged. Let me know the results of this simple test.

There is flow, then there is adequate flow. If the fuel sock is clogged the stream will be weak, which stresses the injection pump, which in turn stresses the FSD. This causes short life spans in FSD's, and will also lead to fuel shutoffs due to air in the fuel lines.

A bad oil sending unit or failing lift pump will also cause these problems.

Sounds like you have a fuel delivery problem. You should also check the FFM for rust and other debris at the bottom.

You can also pull the fuel shut down solenoid, turn the lift pump on with your jumper - I always mount the on/off toggle switch for the lift pumps on my vehicles under the hood - flip the lift pump on for 1/2 second and see if you have good fuel to the Injection pump.

thanks for the responses, sorry haven't updated in a while. got fuel up to the IP ant the solenoid, swapped it out with a spare I've got as well. still no start, got smoke and seems like she wants to try still. got some good fuel pressure at FFM, clean in there new filter, good flow at t valve and shutoff solenoid port. either of you have any experience with dorman PMDs? seems like that's the only brand available in southern alberta and my next unit will be #6 in the last 2 months.

Haven't heard much about the Dorman PMD's.

I would be more inclined to try a Flight Systems or the new PMD they have out that Has a different kind of resistor.

I would stay away from Dormans or Standyne Gray PMD's

IF all you have been using is Dorman's I would try something else. Usually PMD's going bad is a sign of something up with the fuel system.

I would install a fuel pressure gauge so you can monitor your fuel. If the guage is dropping to zero or below, you know you have a lift pump problem or a differnet reason the lift pump is not getting enough fuel
