Default violent sputtering

iv been having some somewhat violent sputtering issues with my 98 6.5 td vin code f.. all started a couple of weeks ago so i figured, oh what the hell, ill change my fuel filter out, thats surely to be it... i had bought some cheap POS chinese made filter that ended up cracking when i installed it and was leaking all over and still sputtering anyway, so i went ahead and bought the slightly more expensive one, to my knowledge i did it right, bled the little screw on top, checked all the o-rings, still sputters. and just with me tinkering i used the water bleed off valve or whatever its called and had a steady stream of fluel, so i dont believe it could be my lift pump, but once again, still sputters pretty violently while driving. i have the PMD relocated, even checked the connections on the system, everything i could think of i have checked. the guy i bought the truck from had the entire injection system replaced a year before i bought it not knowing the PMD was his issue, any ways to test all of the weak points on the 6.5td that would cause all of this sputtering? any help would be appreciated, thanks

It could be a failing PMD, or the cable that the PMD is connecting to. I had issues with my rig sputtering, sounding like it was back firing and then it would die and I would have to wait several minutes for it to start back up. Eventually wouldn't start at all. Thought it was the pump so I replaced it. 8 hours later new pump in place still no start. I unhooked my PMD from the 6' relocation cable and attached it directly to the IP. Fired right up. Bought a new cable and problem solved. You can also check with a known working PMD to rule out it being that.

i dont know what the heck happened to it, but i was out there today because i had finally had access to the little diagnostic tool. plugged it up, got 2 codes... obviously my turbo because i have a ghetto rigged turbomaster.. and something with the fuel delivery system... for 2 weeks ago... unplugged it, took it for a drive. and didnt do it again.. drove about 50 miles and never did it... so it has temporarily fixed itself. this 6.5 is about to make a really good boat anchor. im having a feeling instead of dropping any more money into this motor, ill swap a 5.9 in instead.. this is getting rediculous
