Default bad lift pump?

Hay y'all..

So last week I started sputtering bucking and stalling. I changed the filter at the ffm and bled air out of the line, still had the same issues. Then I tried to jump the pump relay while it's running and the thing ran great so I changed the ops and it ran fine for about a day but then I got the same issues again. I tried to jump the relay again but it didn't fix it this time.. when I jumped it though I noticed the pump doesn't sound too good. It sounds kinda like it runs fine for a few seconds then winds down then sounds good again.. seems like I should put a new one in.. was thinking about doing it today on my lunch break but I just wanted a second opinion.. would a clogged filter cause it to sound like that? Do they sound like that when they're failing? Also.. before I parked it on the side of the road I couldn't get it over 30 mph..

Thanks

I would say that a new LP and a new AC Delco OPS is required-likely had a high current draw and damaged the OPS again-ONLY AC Delco for OPS.

Get a Delco LP from a 93 model for best performance.

Also google and install the "OPS relay mod" for long term reliability.

Well.. New LP and OPS,, both AC Telco. Still no luck. Little more info. It's a 95 GMC Sierra 2500 6.5 TD with 150k. It looks like there is a filter right before the LP but neither NAPA or Advanced could find it in their computers.. also isn't there a filter in the tank? They couldn't find that either.. all they could bring up was the one for the FFM. The flow comming out the bleeder seems low so I'm guessing it has to be a filter? It runs fine til it runs out of fuel and then dies and then take about 30 seconds to fire back up and the repeat..

There is supposed to be a sock/screen in the tank, but aftermarket sending un its are sent with the wrong sock so many people chose to remove the bad sock and install an inline filter/screen for easy maintenance.

What should be used is a screen like lawnmowers use with a nylon or other non metal mesh.

If that filter is plugged it could be the source of the trouble.
It is not original so there will be no listing for it so you may have to search out your own replacement.

If you want to put the original sock back in the tank-rockauto has the listing-ACDELCO Part # TS1012 ,GM #25055272.

You might be able to find a number on the pre filter that sounds like it was installed. I'd get 2 and carry a spare.

Do you have any pictures of the install? What type of filter is it?

I concur with everything racer said. Other than if you do the dual lift pump relay upgrade, you usually do not have to replace the OPS. As the relay will trip with the minimal juice a bad OPS is still putting out.
Regardless, I consider the relay upgrade, mandatory on 1994 and 1995 6.5's
