You do not need a good OPS if the relay up grade is done. Almost all the time a bad OPS will still put out enough juice to trigger the relays. I've had 2 vehicles running with bad OPS's since Buddy posted the dual lift pump relay upgrade.
An OPS can put out 12 volts but still not enough juice to run a lift pump.
Like I said, I always make sure the lift pump works before I risk sucking air into the injection pump

Agreed, but without knowing the OP's vehicle condition/mods the answers given must be applicable to a stock vehicle with no mods and are still valid when either the single or dual relay mod is installed or even if the OPS has been bypassed altogether so everyone can benefit if they come upon the thread down the road.

I went ahead and tried the open drain test and the good news is there was no change in the way the truck ran. i do still need to clean the grounds saw they are kinda dirty. i didnt see where there has been a relay added so gotta do that to keep it alive i did find the schematics in a search. also ordered a cdr for it as mine looks original and it is allowing the truck to push/suck oil into the intake and burn oil. im thinkin thats the problem bc the truck doesnt always burn oil like it would with bad rings/worn pistons.

Well i checked and from what i can tell nothings been hotwired and it is working while driving. I also threw a 180 thermostat in her. that cooled it down a little which i liked and it seems to run a little better too. My cutting out problem is gone now as well. thanks for some info guys i appreciate it alot! heres a pic of the ol truck
