Where is the temperature gauge sending unit on the 1996 K1500 6.5 diesel Suburban? At the front of the block on the left hand/drivers side, near the injector.
How do you test it?
The temperature gauge quit working.

Yes that is the proper location for the gauge sending unit-frt of drivers side head.
The only test I can think of is to use an ohm meter to check resistance with a known temp eg:immerse the coolant contact portion in boiling water it should give a resistance reading close to 212F or 100C.
Or on a stone cold engine it should give a value close to the ambient temp.

Thanks. I have a bad sending unit connection. I was able to get it hooked up good enough that it will work until it falls off. I ordered a new part on Amazon
