Also can u tell me what a sending unit is and what it does.

Racer55 does the leaking fuel out of the line mean fuel is ok in the line. Kinda difficult to try suctioning it out more in the cold. I wont really know until I get the pump.

They said it would take a week to get the part. $150 plus tax.

I found it on the net for $54 bucks.

By all means buy the one on the net then.

The fuel tank sending unit is the part of the system that holds the resistor for the gauge and has the dip tube and return line for fuel suction and return.

It does both jobs and at the bottom of the dip tube is the tank sock/strainer that pre screens the fuel befor it gets to the LP.

Aftermarket sending units are being sent with the wrong or low quality tank sock-they know it's wrong and won';t do anything about correcting the situation.
they plug too easily and are not stiff enough and collapse too easily-those things are a mjor problem with fuel starvation..

You can use it for replacement but remove the new sock and put the stock one back in place or leave the tube open and install an inline fuel screen pre LP to keep crap out of the pump and have easier maintenance.

Once you get the new pump installed run it with power from pin G and see how the flow is.

I got a delco LP from accurateddiesel.com for around $62.00 including the shipping. It was in my mailbox 2 days later.

Racer55 im am getting another working pump off another truck until I can get the new delco one.

I should be able to put it in tomorrow so I can start the truck or at least trouble shoot the problem.

As for the old pump I put it in a pan of water with 12v and it just gave a constant stream of flow through a pipe and hose. I dont have a means to check psi.

Question. When I hook up the replacement pump how should the flow look? A stream or really sqirt out fast?

A steady stream of fuel should come out.

If the old pump was able to move fluid,then there is a blockage in the tank or a massive air leak between the fuel level in the tank and the LP.

1 note is that the stock strainer has a bypass that is above the sock,if there is less than 1/2 a tank of fuel and the strainer is plugged or the bypass has failed open the LP can only suck air.

Really a small weak stream comming out. When I exchange the pump I will compare streams if any and go from there.

This forum is excellent.

Hi guys,

I got the delco pump. Tested it sounded very strong and powerful.

Since there was some downtime for me I used a manal transfer pump to deliver the fuel to the t valve.

I put the electric pump in and it fired up after about 6 tries.

Thanks everyone.

I got a short video of the truck running. Can I get a few reviews kn the sound of the engine.
