Default 6.5 Lift Pump problems

The quality of the AC Delco parts is now suspect in my mind. Two months ago, my 1998 Sierra 2500 was having minor driveability issues that I thought were related to the lift pump. Last month, I was parked at a motel in El Paso, and when I fired up the truck in the morning, it fired right up, and ran fine until about a minute later, just before I was going to drop it in Reverse, the engine suddenly died. I went to a dealer, and bought a brand new AC Delco lift pump, and a fuel filter element, installing both of them in the truck in the motel parking lot without spilling a drop of fuel on their brand new resurfacing job. Because of the fresh blactop, I had a AAA wrecker thae the truck to Crawford GMG, to have them bleed the system. That, and a computerized system check that with the new pump, pulled zero codes, cost 113 dollars.
Four days ago, (LESS than a month after the new lift pump was installed, the new one failed out here in the middle of nowhere, same symptoms. AAA took the truck to Crawford GMC, and they called mr today, and told me that the BRAND NEW pump failed. They would install a new one for THREE HUNDRED SIXTY DOLLARS. On Saturday, I will go there with a tow dolly behind my Jeep Wrangler, and pull the truck over to the airport where I keep my Airplane. once there, I will go to Pep Boys, and spend 30 something dollars for a Diesel specific fuel pump with slightly higher pressure, and plumb it into the fuel line, with the pump's hot wire coming off a hot on ignition wire so that I can prime the system by gust turning the power to on, and NOT deal with some Hokey oil pressure sender. I know about Chinese quality, but the 60 dollar AC Delco OEM Pump didn't last a month, so I'm not impressed. once I get the air out of the system, I will make the rounds of the Buy-Here-Pay-Here car lots, and trade the diesel GMC on a Gas powered Ford.
Anyone got any ideas on WHY the substantially built OEM Pump failed in less that a month??
