well i got the heads off today and i didnt see any of the rocker arm retainers broken so when i tore the drivers side off i started investigating and noticed slag on the injection port of cyl 3 and the hole was a little warped took a look at that cylinder and sure enough the piston was melted now time for a new piston at the least if not a sleeve.

Does Anyone Have Some Ideas Why The Piston Would Have Melted... What Caused It To Heat Up So Much.

Injectors that pee out rather than spray cause extreme hot spots that will melt pistons.

That is why injectors should be replaced/rebuilt every 100,000 miles-they should also be pop tested to confirm/adjust pop pressure before installation even when new, they should all be within 10% of each other or closer.

ONLY Bosch,Delphi or Stanadyne nozzles should be used.
