Default turbo upgrade

i have the rear 1996 Chevy K1500 6.5 turbo diesel runs awesome only had it for month and still runs like a brand new truck with 271,200 miles the problem i have is the wastegate is not working correctly and i have it tied open so my turbo will produce boost is that going to hurt anything till i can get a new wastegate for it i have also been looking at upgrading to the HX40W-II turbo with the diamond eye 5 inch muffler delete for the turbo back would i need to anything to make the turbo work with all factory hook ups or would it just be easier to do the exhaust upgrade and get a new wastegate and keep my factory turbo also with my truck being the K1500 i am having trouble finding anything for it everything that i am finding is for the 2500-3500 trucks will that make a difference for my truck or will the K2500 upgrades work on my truck

Might want to look into the ATT turbo from Walking J Designs - direct bolt in but more expensive than a HX 40.
