Default new diesel owner needs help

I have a 1999 suburban 6.5 diesel drove fine came home shut it off next morning a little cold I had it plugged in all night cranked it over will not start i seen white smoke from the exhaust so i waited and tried again a few times i drained the two battery's down so i picked up 2 new battery's installed and now it cranks slow and the body ground wire gets very hot .
I sure can use some suggestions on where to go from here with this truck i had the truck for 1 week so i don't have any history on it except new head gasket and head .

Thanks for any help. bill

Replace ground wire thats getting hot and check the rest of the grounds to make sure there tight and clean. Some body else will chime in here sooner or later.Be sure to check the one from passenger side back of head to firewall or frame.

I supect as well you are having a ground issue pull all of them apart clean them and use a little dielectric grease make sure you dont miss the ground cable on the rear of the passenger side head and if these get you nowhere you may want to drop the starter and clean between it and the engine block as I have seen this lead to the symptoms you are having good luck and keep us posted
