Nice edit, ranch hand. Yes I'd typically say the purpose of these forums is to turn our own wrenches. But let's face it, unless you really know what your doing, the age person can retime an injection pump. Not to mention, the COST of a new lift pump and injection pump is a good $2-3k in parts alone.

But you change your own injectors in your 7.3 and change the glow plugs that bill in my shop would cost more then changing an injection pump timing an injection pump and replacing the lift pump

Glow plugs and injectors are relatively easy... Timing an injection pump just right is NOT. An ip on a 24v or cr is a good 4-6hrs if you know what your doing. Glowplugs and an inkector are a matter of removing a valve cover.

it takes about 45 min to an hour to change an injection pump on a vp truck if you have done it before. I have seen it done in 45 min. Obviously you are not very familiar with the vp IP change times I believe book time is less than what you have listed for time to change one.

No I have never done one personally, but my cummins buddy, who is also a mechanical engineer for MOOG, says that it takes a good 4-6hrs to swap IP's on 24v trucks. Which the only thing that stopped me from buying one about 4mos ago. (guy fried 3 lp's and the ip was on it's way out).

It's interesting how you base your thinking off of a moog engineer not a diesel mechanic Engineers are the reason a 6.0 is a POS

O and you don't have to time a vp 44 which would have been what was on the truck you didn't buy

Wait, are you trying to say a mechanic knows more than a mechanical engineer? Or did I interpret that wrong? Because a mechanical engineer designs the **** that a diesel mechanic fixes.

As far as the vp on the 24v I was gonna buy, I don't know too much about their design or anything but my friend said its relatively a pain in the dick to swap the vp. Plus the cost of a new one is ridiculous.

I've come to the conclusion that arguing with the typical Cummins nut job is like arguing with a religious or political nut job there side is always better the old 7.3 was a great motor and all the trucks have some issues and good points I swear I am prolly one of the only few people that has a cummins and doesn't think they are all that awesome

I guess I'm your typical Cummins nut job but it's funny this whole discussion got out of hand because somebody said a 300 hp 7.3 would outperform a 400 hp Cummins

Chris- isn't it funny how we're in the POWERSTROKE part of the forum, yet there's more cummins guys in here posting than powerstroke guys? I agree with you.. Its impossible to talk to a cummins guy without getting into a pissing contest. I was merely stating WHY the cummins guys feel the need to knock powerstrokes, but how even most cummins guys LIKE the 7.3, when all of a sudden we're talking how much faster a common rail duramax is than a 7.3

Tireturd- I was merely stating why a v8 diesel is far better overall than an i6. THAT'S why a ptroke with 100hp less can outhaul an i6... The area under the curve is much more broad, compared to a cummins i6 peaky low rpm numbers
