I had a Magnum and it was a huge pile.....actually wrote off Polaris for quite some time because of it.
Can't speak on the Sportsman 400, but on the 800....what exactly has been wrong with it to spend that much time in the shop?
I run the wheels off my 800.....let us know what is going on; there is a ton of useful info on the 'net for them.
What models and what types of problems?[/QUOTone has a magnum 325 and a sportsman 400 and theve been in the shop a dozen time for jet issues my other brother has a sportsman 800 and its junk has had it since labor day and been in the shop for a bout four months out of the six hes had it

I have run Polaris all of my life, currently have an '06 500 HO sportsman with 5' plow.Other than burning out 2 contactors for the winch, plowing is hard on them, i have had no problems with it. I have added the rubber spacers in the front springs and cranked up the rear springs to help stiffen the ride.I also run about 12 psi in the front tires in the winter to help out twiththe extra plow weight, it is unbeleivable how much snow these things will move.
Honda's are good if you live in Florida where it never gets cold, have yet to see one start when the temps drop.Arctic Cat you need to ask about how much the belts are to replace and i won't own a canam because bombardier makes it and bombardier has been sucking at the government teat for handouts far to long.

When it comes to buying a 4wheeler, its just like buying a truck. All companies have their goods and their bads. I currently own two Arctic Cats. They have both been excellent machines. Would I buy something else?? Yes, but I personally prefer AC over the others. Kawasaki's Brute Force is an extremely nice machine. The only thing I would not buy is some cheap chinese knockoff. They arent worth their weight in scrap. My next one will probably be the AC Prowler. As I get older, I like more comffort in my ride. This is just my .02 worth. You can take it or leave it.

I RIDE WITH A GROUP OF 10 QUADS, ALL ARE HONDA except for two, MY ARCTIC CAT 400 and a POLARIS SPORTMAN 800, the POLARIS is always having problems starting, and over-heating, HONDA doesn't like deep water, had to tow a HONDA 2 miles thur heavy mud, the other HONDA didn't want to tow, cause they were getting stuck in the mud, MY ARCTIC CAT 400 got stuck only twice while towing the HONDA 350 4X4, I only got stuck once, while I was not towing, The HONDA FOREMAN 500 had 29.5 OUTLAWS TIRES and he got stuck more than my ARCTIC CAT.
