It sounds like you don't have enough oxygen.

Make sure your acetylene regulator isn't up too high. Keep it at about 10psi.

Only open the acetylene tank valve it about 1 1/2 turns.

Open the oxy tank valve ALL the way.

Open the acetylene valve on the torch just until you get minimal soot.

Open the oxy valve on the torch's base fully.

Use the oxy valve that's up further on the torch to adjust your oxy level.

I can't remember what the oxy regulator pressures are supposed to be.

goo info. I'll have to clean the lenses up on the regulators. they are plastic and hard to see.

ok I I did tons of reading and have the tank pressures set right. I cleaned the head (it didnt seem too dirty.

at this point I am ready to light it up. From what I read yoou turn the gas on just enough to light it and then turn it up until the flame burns "clean" (which it never does there are black floaties everywhere). Then crack the Oxyegen until desired flame is reached. well as soon as I crack the oxygen it snaps and the flam goes out (80% of the time) or if I get the flame to stay it pops when I press the handle to add more oxygen.

what the hell am I doing wrong?
I don't ever remember having this much trouble when i have used them in the past.

Also I read that the popping usually occurs when one of them is turned of before the other and that it shouldnt be done. but I cant remember which. but this doesn't explain my pop

sounds like to me you have toooooo much acceteline when you introduce the Oxy

try about half that on accetelene..........yes it will be very black with soot. (substoikemetric burn) then add the O2..............you can always add more accetelene then more o2 after that

u dont have enough actelyne tat suker should look like a mine flame throuwer, light it with it barley open open the valve on the torch half way up,not the bottel, then star opening the oxy vavle on the torch get it close to pointy the hold down the lever and fine tune the oxy,
ur actlyne bottle is standing strait up right and if u already opened it all the way once it could be unstable and the liquid(acetlyne is a liquid) could have cloged up ur hose
