if the junk cars are close, withing 10-15 miles from the scrap yard, a tow truck or roll back in my area will only charge you like $35 to come pick up the car and haul it to wherever you go, which is nice cause you dont have to do anything but collect the money, you got maybe $50 bucks in the whole deal to make $200-$300........or find a buddy with a wrecker and get 5 or 6 junk cars lined up for free or next to nothing and tell him you will go 50-50 with him on the cars if he hauls them......if he knows its gonna be slow he will gladly take you up on the offer.........

me I buy and sell stuff, buy at auctions and sell locally mostly. other then that I run a "small" junkyard and buy and sell cars , buy them for $100-$300 and double my money on them, torch off the valuables and the tank and take it in. I ake all my mad money and auction money doing that, the rest of the year I am either cutting grass, hauling mulch, hauling campers, hauling junk and trash, and plowing snow.

for the gent asking on prices, just call around and price out 10 yard trash roll off dumpsters, then average all the prices and cut it in half for your hauling fee on a fullsize truck then add labor from there if they want you to help load it, $40 a hour per guy is what I charge unless it is scrap metal, then it is free! especially at $200 a ton. when unloading always keep a eye out for ebay knick-knacks as you unload at the dump, once I found a 50's Singer Featherweight sewing machine and ebayed it for $400. trust me there is plenty of cash out there if you look in the right spots

When we needed more cash to pay the bills -- I got a part time/became full time (on top of my regular full time job) job delivering pizza's - it was great!

I could only imagine what someone in a larger city could make -- I worked in a smaller town and would consistantly go home with $30 to $70 each night -- then I'd get my min wage paycheck every two weeks... In not quite 5 months, I think I made almost $4K... defiantely helped with our cash shortage!!!

X2 I don't like cash side job no taxes and insurance could get you into big trouble. That and there's getting a part time job, but I'd be working for next to nothing compared to what I make at my real job. And I would probably get fired for no shows for time they want me to work and I didn't or I was needed for more OT at my real job. I just watch my spending.

So you don't believe in garage sales, yard sales, swap meets, or flea markets then either?

Just messin', but as long as a person uses their head, side work can be beneficial for a variety of reasons, not just the income potential.
