My kids have something like this at school. They design the countries layout and choose the names, population info, everything about the country they are building. They are setting up holidays and schools. All kinds of things.
I'm not sure what it teaches them, but they sure enjoy it. They bring home maps and other statistics on a bi-weekly basis. It's been running since the beginning of school.
Having just gone through Thanksgiving, they had to buy food for the country.
They had to hire farmers to grow the turkeys.
Pretty neat stuff...

Amen to oregon trail. On them old school green screened apple computers.
Also had sim city, and sim city 2k once it came out. oh, and cant forget sim ant!
I was always a fan of doing this too. no wonder the buffalo is so rare.
