I wouldn't say I'm in a big hurry to join. I've been kicking around the idea of joining since I took the ASVAB test in 10th grade. I'm just now trying to find out more information to see if its what I really want. And I'm not trying to be a dick here, and I know you aren't either, but if I had the money for college, I'd be there. And yes, there are loans, grants, and scholarships but even with those I still don't have the money to get to school.

If you didn't sign up yet, talk to a couple different recruiters. I spoke with 5; 2 army and 3 Marines. I was able to make an informed decision and knew what I could get/achieve just by asking. If you don't ask; you won't get.
Deezel is right; stay away from the **** birds; it's like being las'd with a target designator your whole service.
Do what you are told and do it quick, don't ask too many questions. Don't let them see that you don't like their decisions (at least for a couple years) and keep a good attitude. It will work ten-fold for you.

I would go AF or Navy for one hitch and more opportunities to get experience in civilian-corresponding skills. If you want to be a hard-*** and go around killing people and blowing shyt up, be a ground pounder. There's always room to move up and take charge of more like you down the road.
