RACE REPORT...

I had a hobby stock (dirt) in high school, an Enduro car (dirt and pavement) during and after high school, raced a 360 sprint in the late 90's, and a sportsman sprint from 2002-2005.....
It's just too expensive now for me to run competitive at the moment. With the yearly budgets for NSCS approaching $250,000 just to run top 20 I can't justify my own deal.....I had great sponsors, but not that great.
Last year I qualified the car at two races because the driver was late getting to the track and put it in the top 10 both times, so that's enough to let me know I've still got it for when I win the lottery. LOL

It used to be cheaper....lately it's just insane.
The hobby stock class here is a 2bbl/cast iron exhaust manifold class where people are dropping $2,000 for Brezinski intakes, exhaust manifolds, and exhaust systems....and most of the top 10 had DART blocks & heads...........for a $1000 carb to pan claim rule...
Our modified engine (436 carb'd on methanol) cost $19,000 and has cast iron heads.
The sprint car.....I don't even want to think about it right now--headaches...

Are the spec engines sealed?
They're talking about sealed engines for the hobby stocks to "control costs" but IMHO it's a stupid move as if you have any trouble, you have to send it back in for repairs....and wait 10-14 days for a turnaround.
How requiring teams to purchase and additional $4,000 engine for a spare makes sense for cost control I have no...freaking...idea...

yes they are sealed but all the guys running in this series have more than one motor or have the money to get another one within a few days, we had the engine builder, who also owns Progressive Racing Engines, swapping valve springs on our car before the race, they are sealed but not "crazy" sealed, you can pull the covers and do some other stuff to them, just not tear them apart......
i think the track should be able to claim the engine also if they want too......

The track can claim, and reminds the racers weekly of that fact...
Problem is once you let participants get away with so much for so long, other than DQ'ing your entire field there isn't much you can do until the end of the season...
That whole money thing again....
They'll be surprised next year when there are 5 hobby stocks and 85 modifieds. Why race for $300 a night when you can spend a few bucks more and race for $1100?

LMAO you sound like me...
I go in cycles, one month I hate it and can't wait to get away, next month I'm rummaging through my disaster of a garage trying to find my suit to run on short notice and using up vacation time to go to a race out of state.....
I would've done more last year if I wasn't so sick, but hopefully things will keep looking up and I can get this sprinter thing going strong for next season.
