i considered getting the ally but haven't seen anyone overclock it yet. thats what made me keep the droid over the incredible. I have on screen keyboards, plus it was easy enough to run the droid at 1.2 ghz and the power management on some of the kernels floating around is awesome.

Ok so im looking at switching carriers and getting a Droid, what is rooted and overclocked? Also are there any texting apps out yet that use your number instead of a randomly generated one or email address?

Rooting just means you gain full access to your phones functions. And you are no longer supported by the carriers support unless you go back and unroot your phone. It just means your phone is operating on a rom that has been placed on the "root" of your sdcard. Or a stand alone file on your card, like a music or picture file that is saved to your card, not in another folder.
Overclocking just increases the frequency that the phone operates, making the phone faster and more responsive with less lag. You need to be rooted to overclock, because you have to be rooted to install and overclocking kernel from your sdcard. Once you are rooted you can install any rom, theme, kernel, module, apk, and so on to your phone from your sdcard, you just need to install a program and drivers to your computer to get the phone rooted, then you can do the rest with your phone with a rom manager application. Its VERY SIMPLE! I'm not a computer guy and this was to easy, anybody can do it, and the phone runs on a type of linux. If you know linux, thats even better. Just do a search on the web or youtube it'll tell you everything you need to know to root your phone.
