Default Turning your smart phone into a Modem

A friend told me about this app for my andriod phone, and what it does is use my data service on my phone and uses it to tether my laptop to the internet. So anywhere i have a phone signal i can be on the internet... and im using it right now cause i dont have cable anymore, it works great 3G speeds on a computer is enough to browse this site with no problems and stream music from the net at the same time.

PdaNet -- Use your Treo smartphone as a Wireless Modem for your PC

^^ there is a link to the software, you will need to download the app on your phone and download some app for your computer and you can connect it and use the internet in almost 5 minutes, it wont take long if you have a good computer.

it is a free app, you will have to click on what type of phone you have up top and then cilck the help link and it should guide you through the rest

awesome app, i used to use it. You used to be able to BT connect any phone as a modem, use #777, username xxxxxxxxxx@vzw3g.com (your number) and pass vzw but it doesn't work anymore unless you subscribe to tethering.

I just use the WM ICS tool to tether with blue tooth or usb, otherwise i can just set the usb connection type to modem and use AT&T's software to connect. only drawback is the 5gb limit a month in data use on the tethering plans, I haven't used more than 2.5gb yet but we shall see.

i use it too, works great.... beats paying 20 bux for 2-3 hours of internet whenever you are at the airport.....

even if it is slower than DSL or cable it don't cost nothing extra if you have unlimited Data....

One of the engineers where I work did this a few years ago. Ran up a $900+ phone bill in a month

true, if it is unlimited Data, AND noone tells your cell company you are using the phone as a modem then it is fine, if they find out you are doing this or if you pay per the Kb of usage then you might as well go ahead and bend over....
