if your not going for a dodge get a duramax. they get better mileage, more power, and more reliable than any of the powerstrokes ive dealt with. and i dealt with a fleet of both, very few problems with the duramaxes and tons of problems with the powerstroke. plus the duramax is a lot easier ot work on.

As a stock daily driver, Duramax
As a stock pullin truck, Powerstroke
As a bombed out beast, Cummins all the way. The easiest and cheapest of all of em to bomb with the best results.

im with most of the other guys here, if you wont get a cummins then get a duramax there the next best thing, there a great truck, they are extremely comfortable, there reliable, they make a good deal of power and you can bomb them pretty easally and they respond well to bombs

Seems to be the concensus, if not Dodge, then Duramax. I've not met(although it's not a lot) of Ford owners that have been totally satisfied.

As much as we hear about the 6.0 PSD being bad, i have had no problems with mine for 65k miles now and I love it. I also have one of the first 03s made...which were supposed to be the worst. I would keep my ford if the motor crapped out and i would stick a cummins in it, combined with my torqueshift tranny, that would be an awsome conbo i think!
So i woul dhave to say Ford...either the 7.3 or the 6.0...the 6.0 is faster and stronger than the 7.3s but longevity isn't documented to well yet.

Go with a duramax, they are hard to beat, as far as the heads they are still aluminum, but they are not a problem. On the lb7 motor they mostly only had problems with injectors and the General(in most cases) warranties until 200,000.
The lly up to 04 had a slight overheating problem when towing up grades but most of these have been fixed. There also is after market products that solve this problem. The 04.5-06 LLY have no common problems, and the LBZ is just a sweet motor. If you don't go with a duramax I would get a cummins(just make sure its not a 53 block).
