We are actually required to be at work even if we are under a "level 3 snow emergency", which dictates ONLY emergency vehicles are to be on the roads. If they catch ya out during a level 3, they can fine ya. If you get stranded or have an accident, they'll impound your ride, throw a bigger fine at ya, and even reserve the right to charge you for the rescue!

We've bumped heads with the company a couple times over this one, especially us guys that work the midnight shift, when the roads are never cleared. I've had snow packed into the grille of my truck a couple times busting through drifts going to work during a level 3. It was a lot more fun when I had my old truck with the plow! Drive an hour to go 12 miles. Funny when the people that implemented this policy never seem to make it in to work on those days!

All I can say is, if I get fined, I believe the ticket will be laying on the plant manager's desk... if/when he shows up after the storm is over!

 

yeah, but how often is that? maybe that 1 time a year when the plows can't keep up?

and thats usually when certain people near to the urban areas like to park in the street so they can shovel their drives.. i really would like to see them ticketed or hit with a plow

 

Come to Florida and you have to work in weather that will kill you everyday as we go from a few cold days to back to cooking your *** through the long hot summer.

We used to go bust through snow piles in parking lots and run till we packed the snow in the grill and started over heating, then we dig out the snow and start again, I guess he wanted to bust snow and not have to stop.

 

at least she gets paid when it snows and she goes to work, it droped a couple "suprised" inches around my area this morning, no one was ready for it, so it made traveling horrible in the dark morning hours, BUT i jumped in the truck and off i go. i drove around for 4 hours this morning, in circles, trying to get into my job site for the day, just to find out the meterials we had woulnd't work, in any way or form, loaded everything back up, hooked up the trailers and drove in circles till we got home. and this equals NO PAYCHECK FOR THE DAY. i wasted an entire morning for nothing, not to mention i could have gotten hurt or damaged the trucks or trailers, FOR NOTHING. but this is part of my job, and it pays{most of the time} and it is what i need to do to support family. someone, someplace, WILL show up no matter what, and everyone is replaceable. just somethings to concider when looking for jobs, and to keep in mind when accepting larger positions at work. i think if she was really concerned, she would bump down to a "less important" position so she can keep her job. i always tell my wife if she don't want to chance it stay at home, you can work thru the problems as they come then, at least you will be able TO work thru them. and i don't mean this in a rude way, please don't take it wrong.

BTW, them pet stores are important. you don't want to be around my dogs when they run outa food, soon you will be outa food also........

 

The way I see it is this. If the store is open, she is required to be at work if she had that shift, just like if it was sunny and 80* out. Now if SHE feels it is unsafe to go to work she should stay home and take teh hit, just like if it was sunny and 80* out. If the store is open they are counting on her to be there and to work.

 

Not in your best interest? If it's that big of a deal, I would think you'd be there for her. Perhaps the comments made about me not caring about my girlfriend should've been directed your way instead of mine...

If you're so busy with your plow biz that you can't be there for your girlfriend, a single mother trying to make ends meet at all costs, then:

1. Stop complaining about not working in other threads around here.
2. Don't be surprised if she finds a guy who treats her better.....haven't you been down this road before at least once?


Sorry, but you won't get my sympathy. Your girlfriend has my sympathy but she also understands the job has to be done....and you need to define "nasty out" as people in Fairbanks, Alaska are probably going to have a very different opinion than those in Phoenix of what constitutes bad weather.

Actually, the level 3's usually hit around here a couple times a year. A lot of open farm land with rolling hills. Terrible for drifting. A 4 inch snow storm with 20-30 mph winds can whip up a 3 foot drift across the road real quick and turn visibility to 0.

I live just 1/4 mile from where this semi was found completely buried in a drift back in the "blizzard of '78". Guy lived there for 6 days eating snow ***** and candy bars before the road crews hit his truck with the front end loader. That storm only dumped 7 inches of snow on us, but was fueled by 70 mph sustained winds!


With all the townships hurting for money these last couple years, they don't even bother to plow the secondary roads around here till the storm is done, then they bring out the road graders and front-end loaders to clear away the drifts. Our tax dollars hard at work!

 

so i'm supposed to leave my job that pays way better then hers to drive her to work in the snow?
stop complaining, u can go pound sand! i'm plowing snow and trying to find off jobs so i don't have to collect unemployment during the period of year i am laid off.
or do u think it's a better idea i just collect unemployment and stay home?

how about this, when she crashes and dies in snow storm because she had to go to work...
u can be the one to explain it to her motherless child...it's ******** like u that are out driving around in the **** thinkin you'll be ok because u have drivin it all ur life and u have a heavy 4x4.. accidents still happen. my farther owns a wrecker business... u know how many experienced drivers we have pull out of the ditch? more then u can count. those people should have just stayed home until the road where clear...
