Suzuki RM-Z250 Who Works on them?
Need some info, my sons bike he bought June 08 seized up not alot of hours on it just riding around the house here, it does have oil in it BUT it did spend alot of time on the back wheel, anything we should look for before just ripping in to it? something common with these doing this? or just to much time on wheelies and oil not in correct spot?
TIA
John

Well, I cant say Ive ever torn into a 'Zuki..but I have rebuilt a few other brands.. I honestly dont think it siezed up from lack of oil due to wheelies..
You would be more likely to have made contact with piston/valvetrain..
Take lots of pictures, and put everything in baggies and label them with a sharpie.. there are several things that could have locked it up, but if there was oil in the motor, i doubt wheelies caused it..

did he buy it used? would be interesting to find out from a 'zuki dealership if there's a known problem with that engine/bike. shouldn't be from wheelies depriving oil...the dirtbike oil systems are pretty well thought out so that you have enough oiling while doing ridiculous things.
I'm inclined to say the main cause has to do with it being a suzuki, I dunno, maybe their dirt stuff is built well. There's a fair amount of things I've had to fix/adjust/tune on both of my 'zuki street bikes and other than their sport bikes being overwhelmingly popular because it's easy to say gixxster, I'd have to say I'm not terribly impressed with the quality.

if it has alot of hours on it than ya either lost a ring or a chunk of the skirt
if someone has been fiddlin with the carberator than its runnin lean and it will prolly need the needle raised up one slot
has this bike changed location........elevation makes a huge difference in fuel mixture on em
no matter hat you need to pull it down and make damn good and sure the lower end is cleaned out real well cuz any residule will end up causing the crank bearing to go too, hone the cylender well and go with a weisco piston and ring set

After talking with some FMX riders that I know, it IS possible to wheelie too much and cause a considerable loss in oil supply. The bikes are made to be ridden, but when leaned back for too long, and too many times, it can cause the motor to run without oil. One thing to pay close attention to is the timing. There are two timing plugs right in front of the shifter. Both can be unscrewed with a flat screwrdiver. Remove the plug, and put a socket on the crank shaft thru the bigger of the two plugs.. and turn the motor over by hand untill you see the timing mark in the hole where the smaller plug was. Once you have it at TDC.. (the timing mark will line up in there) then you can procede with removing the head.. I would just pull the plug and see if you can turn it over by hand or if possibly the timing chain jumped off..
