on track with crappy shutdown areas like E-town the drivers usually trip the chutes as they cross or get close to the line so they can open fully by the time the car needs to start slowing up. the cars also have a hand brake that can stop them and the driver will use the walls to slow down by bouncing off them if at all possible. by the looks of this wreck scott was out, maybe even dead, before he hit the end barriers as the car never slowed and stayed in a dead straight line to the end.....

godspeed scotty.....

Scott was a great drag racer, on top of his game as the video showed he was way out in front. I am sure Scott's family knew he loved them all!

Certainly my condolences go out to the family. But when it's my time to go I want to go out doing the thing I love the most. I am sure Scott's family knew he loved them all and given the alternative of dying of old age in a nursing home, I'd choose this any day of the week...

He won... dying do the thing he enjoyed the most when he was the best... He Won!

I spoke to Drag Racing friend of mine about this video. The chutes most likely deployed due to the explosion. Had Scott continued the run he would have cut fuel and deployed the chutes, and began braking - that's the sequence... My friends best guess is that Scott was unconcious... He was a pro and knew the sequence in his sleep, the video does not show any sign that he continued the run. My hope is that he felt no pain!

not to bring up the tragedy again, but he died on his final qualifying attempt. he wasnt in the show yet and that run actually bumped him up to 13th and got him in the rounds.

his crew stood on the line while Robert Hight idled down the track in tribute. the video is on youtube, but be warned if youre a racer itll get to you.

Peace Scott
