yup exactly!! i heard this explanation somewhere: a collision is actually three collisions, the initial collision of the vehicle, then the collision of the occupant of the vehicle with the inside of the vehicle, then the internal organs of the occupant with the inside of the body. i saw a crash test of a smart car with another larger mercedes on youtube, the smart car intruded into the larger car a lot but did not deform. that deformation of the body ("crumple zones") absorb some of the energy.

ok the tridion safety cell is very strong so i guess the undertaker doesnt have to sew your legs back on but your still dead. mass almost always wins. want to see a good crash test example on youtube look for the neon vs lincoln navigator headon crashtest. the car gets thrown completly backwards and the truck slows down a bit. after towing a lot of destroyed cars i traded my car in for a truck as people where i live drink and drive a lot and even sober suck at driving.

ps yes i know the 96 dodge ram crash test on youtube didnt do so good

yes it will survive an initial impact well, the real issue is what happens after! as the car weighs nothing it will bounce and roll and flip around quite easily, and thats where all the injuries are going to come from.

italked to a lady who had one. supposedly some one got T- boned by a loaded end dump trailer and the smart car driver walked away. i call BS. yeah it is smaller for less energy but it's basically a golf cart with seatbelts. that's all.

All the crash test footage shows the car crashing into wall or another car hitting it when it can bounce off, where people get killed is in rearend accidets and the car gets sandwiched, saw one where they towed the car away to a different location to get the deceased out.

They're pretty much pointless. You can get a Jetta TDI and get better MPG's and not to mention be a whole lot safer!

They aren't safe to have on the road. I wouldn't get in one, I sure wouldn't want to have even a fender bender with one either. It looks like they fold like tin foil.
