Hey, I may not cook worth a darn, but I pay all the bills, do all the laundry and wash all the dishes (with no freaking dishwasher by the way). I think that more than makes up for not cooking!

And I can't beleive that you actually dropped a "bless her heart" in there... Nice touch.

If you want someone to cook....encourage them, don't bash them. When my wife and I got married she could not cook. She wanted to, but gave up trying pretty early in high school because her dad/sister would tease her about any mistake. Let me tell you, they have no room to talk. I grew up in the kitchen and even enterred contests as a kid so she was really intimidated. I learned pretty quickly that she needed to know I would not make fun of her and would help her. Once she was comfortable she really did well. She is still learning and isn't the best cook, but she can outcook many of our friends and is very good. She started with a cookbook my mom made for her with good, simple recipes and that really helped.

One of her biggest struggles was following a recipe and the food tasting bad. Sometimes a recipe is crap. You can make it perfect and it still tastes terrible. Just because it tastes bad doesn't mean you are a bad cook. Just keep trying and pay attention...it will work out.

it astounds me how few married couples understand this concept!! the few that do are the ones I like to be around/learn from...

I've always though cooking was just something relatively easy but I've come to find out it's more of an art, in which no matter how hard some may try they just don't have it...hopefully for them they're really good at something else!

You've got that right! I hate cooking because it is an art like you said and I'm not a creative person at all! I just don't have it!

I stick with paying bills and trying to keep the checkbook out of the red... That's what I'm good at.

Bobby and Jason are both great cooks because they are creative like that. They can throw something in a pan or mix up stuff to put on a steak and it is the most random stuff you would ever think of and 99% of the time it's great. I just don't have that kind of creativity.

Oh and Leadfoot, he's not making fun of me. I am fully aware that I can't cook! I just like to give him a hard time right back! Plus, I have no desire to ever try to become a better cook so it isn't like he is discouraging me from anything.

Just watch the Food Network. Lots of good advice. Cooking is easy, most of it is just following directions. (ie recipes) The main thing to remember is not to rush it. It's a labor of love, enjoy it like a "slow comfortable scr#*."
