Default auto trans.....

Hey everyone I was wondering if anyone had some tips or tricks to save my auto tranny in my 01 cummins. I've heard of guys putting torque converters in and that's helped but if anyone has advise, its appreciated!

It depends. If you have a high mileage unit or has gotten really hot more than once, a torque converter and valve body are just a stop gap. Some trucks respond okay to these mods, but I usually get them in the shop one day or another for a full build.

The best way to protect a stock trans is to NOT add any power, do regular services, keep it cool and clean.

The simple truth is these transmissions were marginal from day one. That means every component internally is vulnerable. As we are a DTT builder, we see all types of issues roll through the doors. Often it's from one of of competitors that told the customer the TC and VB would be the be all, end all solution up to 400HP. Yeah right.

Do it once, do it right and build it to meet your power needs. It will be the best investment you have EVER made!

115,000 miles I would say a new trans in these trucks.I myself have a 01 with 74,000 on it and I wish that my first mod was a new full billet trans. DTT ,Goerend is what I am going with, your chioce in what you want. I have a Full Billet DTT trans in the 2002 that has been in the truck for 2 years with 800hp note brought the truck this way.The trans in this truck has been great. My buddy has a 1999 2500 dodge with a auto with mods, the DTT trans has been in the truck in it for 7 years and he tows alot and has NO PROBLEMSThis is just my experience.Save yourself some money and do it right.
