Shift Problem
I have a 2003, 2500, 5.9 Cummins with OEM Automatic Transmission. Problem is at about 120,000 miles transmission got to where does not want to shift from first to second unless I accelerate to 20 or so then let off the gas, then it will shift. Some cool mornings it will shift like it is supposed to but once it warms up I have to let off the gas and it shifts. If I am towing anything big, forget it...first gear until I get flat or going down a hill. Appears the first gear band(?) is out. Is this an easy fix or according to local Dodge Dealer, an over haul or replacement? Thanks for responding.
Trans. filter and oil was changed two years ago at about 108,000 miles, when this problem first started showing up. I have towed a big boat with it like this etc., but with the boat I can only go 15 mph from on dead stop up a hill. This is the first time I have heard about the transducer/gov solenoid. So it has not been changed. I thought there might be some thing like a solenoid etc. that would affect this. I had it into the local Dodge dealer, but their fix seems to always be a complete new replacement.
Worst case the bands are gone for that gear. I will check out the transducer.gov solenoid. thks.!!
