I want upgrade my 97 Powestroke with a 6637 Filter . I have already upgrade to a 3 inch down pipe , an edge evolution 5 stage chip , Straight pipe, and Bosh Injectors. I was told that the filter would cause to much crank case pressure and oil would blow out of the block around the seals . Is there any truth to this or any information out there to prove my source wrong . The truck also has 250,000 miles on it if that makes a difference .

 

That is totally false. Put the 6637 on it

 

I don't see any way that that would be true. As long as you don't seal off the crankcase vent, the most pressure your crankcase should see is atmospheric. You can run a hose down and out the back off the crank vent like a road draft tube, and there's no way you'll see any real pressure in the block. Besides, lowering the restriction in the intake does not logically lead to pressurizing the block in any way.

Just always like to get a second opion on this truck . New at tinkering with them and dont want to cause any damage . Thanks again

 

And there's the problem. O'Reilly is one of the places that I've found nearly zero technical knowledge. There's some good guys there, but most don't know jack about cars period.

 

B.Reilly01 you hit the nail on the head! I live near Nashville and most of the NADC drop outs work at Oreillly's. They cant tell the difference in an air filter and an oil filter. Firefighter7.3 aside of my best friend who has worked on Powerstrokes for 20+ years I trust most of the guys on this sites opinions on mods. They are pretty good. Just be careful with how far you go on your 7.3 if its older. As long as you maintain it properly you can get a long life out of it. Mine is a 96 with almost 400,000 on it and I wouldnt trade it for a new Cummins!

 

I worked for Advance Auto and Napa while in college. There were 2 people at advance that knew up from down on a car, out of like 30. Napa was better, but they were crotchety old guys who had been there for years and never could understand why someone would modify their car. Advance, Autozone, OReilly's and the like are staffed by people who need a job and don't care about cars. Carquest, Napa and Parts Plus are more likely to have knowledgeable people, but they typically have given up. There are of course exceptions.
