If you experienced how well XD3 0W40 cranks over at -30-you might reconsider.

Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40, always with a Fleetguard filter. Tried Rotella but didn't like the "smella", so I switched to Premium Blue and haven't looked back since. Both good oils though.

Thanks, Doc. been pretty busy lately, not much time for anything. Getting ready to pull pin on the Army, so lots of hustle and bustle and a little stress as I don't yet have a job.

Does the Rotella 5W40 smell as bad as their 15W40?

greyghost,

Dont waste your money on Rotella synthetic. Its still a group 3 synthetic which barely outperforms conventional 15w40 oils. Group 3 synthtic oils are not true synthetics, in that they still contain petroleum products. A true synthetic is synthesized from non petroleum compontents.

To really benefit from a synthetic, you need a Group IV synthetic - Exxon XD-3 extra 0W40, Amsoil, Red Line, Royal Purple.

if you guys have fram you ought to look at it. I know they are only about 5 bucks cheaper than the motorcraft but 5 bucks is 5 bucks. If you take them out of the box they look the exact same and even the numbers and serial numbers match.
