here was my take on the whole thing i love manual transmission just because i gt bored in the truck and it keeps me active and my wife can drive manual better in the mud prevents you from over speeding your tires

i chose to rebuild the auto cuz BTS rebuild 4200 dollars 1000hp ready maunal transmission probably from junk yard 1500 plus the 2600 that ford house wanted to install it so you tell me which is better?

oh and another question very out of place in the ford section but can you sled pull with auto cuz i hear alot of ppl sayin that they pull in 4 low in 3rd or 4th

BTS and no need to worry about it ever again...If you skimp on a cheap rebuild then yes it will probably break especially when you add more power... And they are going auto because the auto transmission has become so efficient that they hardly sell manual transmissions... Why would you need to replace the brakes every 10k just because its an auto transmission? You can't downshift with an auto truck?

CSIPSD 03-31-2011 02:19 PM

Low range and 2nd... Depending on the track I will shift to 3rd...

That was YEARS ago...

Stage 1's and a 38r. Drove all night to get there, hooked and then slept in the truck...LOL

From my understanding the cabs are different between the autos and the manuals as the manual requires more room in the trans tunnel??? Or is that wrong? Comparing my friends auto truck to my 6spd, I have two bulges on either side of my tunnel that are not present on his.

Also, with my parents 6spd they lost the slave cylinder at about 160k miles on the odometer. I was borrowing it after that and the throw-out bearing froze and eat up the input shaft, which ended up with a trans replacement (rebuild with a new input shaft was also an option).

You are correct, there is a size difference between the auto and manual...

So you could easily put an auto in a manual cab super duty, but placing a manual into an auto cab super duty would require tunnel work.

ive been told an manual will slide right in, just have ta replace pcm, both driveshafts, transfercase,

You have to change the tunnel. The manual will not fit, unless you do a body lift.

Are you saying a ZF6 can stand up to 1k hp??? If so, you are very mistaken. It can barely hold up to a 300hp PSD. They will overheat and burn up if you try to pull at sustained 300hp.
