Don't look at it as a tow rig, look at it from driving around town.

If you can tolerate the shifting and sore knee/leg, then get the G56. I went with manual for my '08 and even though I use it around town quite a bit when I'm home, it's nice knowing I can tow my toyhauler darn near anywhere.

I have an 08 automatic, I personally have not driven a standard but I am impressed with the way the automatic pulls. Having the ability to shift on the fly really helps, I dont tow anything too heavy, just a 32 foot boat with twins, and the occasional farm tractor. But I think whichever you choose will be good.

I drove 800 miles to get the 6 speed I wanted. I can't imagine not having a standard, I have put a heavy duty south bend with hydraulics in it and love it. It makes a little noise at idle, but I like it, the clutch is actually easy and it is fun in town.

The stock clutch however won't hold up to hardly any mods, so be for warned!

I got a great deal on the clutch from Mighty Diesel!

if you get a standard you will need a clutch. i like my auto in mine. they seem pretty tough with mild tuning

towing in hills manual is a must! auto is nice in city. when you decide to sell the truck a manual sells much easier and for more money. go figure

If you get an auto and go with the HS programmers for deleting the emissions I would definitley budget the overdrive software in. Its a night and day difference for the way the trans will shift. If you get a handshaker get a southbend 3250dd or if you wanna go crazy and 3600 dd would be great

the 6.7s all have exhaust brakes. you cant tell the difference between auto and standards.
