Black Rhino

K&N are known to soot up your turbo and dpf. AFE & Banks are good ones. Depending on your use and area you might consider a dry filter.

They aren't any different, no better than stock.

bowhunter8. You know this to be true? Soot in the turbo? Like exhaust soot? Seems unlikely. Specially the temps about two inches away from there on my pyro. I don't have A K&N on mine but when I am consistently tapping 1200F about two inches above my turbo I have A hard time believing anything builds up on the exhaust side. Unless the unit is idling a lot and the filter gets plugged and it starts choking. There I can see it. But hey anythings possible. Can believe that from any filter that is not maintained. Side note for FI don't go away mad. Just go away. hide behind your blocked list like the mouthy kid at the bar behind his buddies. You should up date from 1982.

Back before I got rid of my two gasser cars ('98 Neon and '98 Sunfire) I ran K&N filters in them. Cleaned them just like the instructions said ..... spray on the cleaner, rinse with cool water, air dry, and spray on the oil very lightly. I even noticed improved mileage when I installed them and thought it was great

Perfect, right?

Not by a mile.

I made sure not to spray on too much oil after doing the maintenance, but found some dust and oil on the inside of the intake just past the filter. Guess what color the oil was? The same red stuff I sprayed on the filter. I thought maybe it was my fault, so I washed it again and applied even less oil this time. While I was doing this, I thought I caught a glimpse of light through the filter, so I held it up to a shop light and it was like looking at the night sky full of stars. Tons of tiny holes in the filter material.

Both filters went straight to the trash.

If you want a good air filter, Geno's Garage has an improved version that allows better flow and better filtering. I'd have to find the part number but its the one I plan on using for both my trucks.

Ok there are several things in this thread you can keep the stock air cleaner and intake and still make big power I made 545hp and 1052tq with stock filter and box. My experience is aftermarket filters let to much dirt past and it's not the difference between gas and diesel it turbo verses non turbo and the amount of forced air movement. Also turbos do suit up on these no diesels that still have EGR on them. My truck is completely deleted including heater grid
